GI scaffold tube 48.3mm hot-dip galvanized, GI Tube Supplier Dubai

GI Tube Supplier in Dubai

Scaffolds Online supplies hot-dip galvanized GI tubes to construction contractors, scaffold rental companies, and project managers across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. Every tube we stock is manufactured to scaffold-grade specifications, not general-purpose pipe, with wall thickness, OD, and galvanizing standards that comply with BS EN 39 and UAE site safety requirements.

What Is a GI Tube?

A GI tube, short for Galvanised Iron tube, is a steel tube coated with a zinc layer through a hot-dip galvanizing process. In construction and scaffolding, the term refers specifically to the structural tube used as standards (vertical members), ledgers (horizontal members), and transoms in tube-and-fitting and cuplock scaffold systems.

Each tube is produced from Grade Q235 low-carbon steel using Electric Resistance Welding (ERW), then galvanized through full-bath immersion at 450°C, not painted, not electroplated. The result is a structural tube that holds its load rating and corrosion resistance in Dubai's salt-air coastal environment, at high ambient temperatures, and across the humidity cycles common on active UAE construction sites.

Where GI Tubes Are Used on UAE Construction Sites

Cuplock Scaffold System

The cuplock system is built entirely around the 48.3 mm GI tube standard. Standards (vertical tubes) and ledgers (horizontal tubes) lock through the cup-and-blade mechanism at fixed node points. Scaffolds Online stocks the ledger and standard lengths most commonly specified in UAE cuplock configurations: 0.5 m, 1.0 m, 1.5 m, 2.0 m, 3.0 m, and 6.0 m.

Tube-and-Coupler Scaffolding

Independent tied scaffolds for building facades, bridges, and industrial plant maintenance use loose GI tubes connected by right-angle, swivel, and sleeve couplers. Wall thickness selection, 3.2 mm vs 4.0 mm, depends on imposed load and span between standards.

Falsework and Shoring

Temporary works engineers specify GI tubes for slab and beam propping where standard falsework frames cannot match the required grid spacing. The tube-and-coupler approach allows custom dimensions that proprietary systems cannot provide.

Handrail and Edge Protection

48.3 mm GI tube is the standard for scaffold handrails and edge protection systems. UAE OSHAD requirements specify a minimum 950 mm top rail height, GI tube with couplers and standards meets this on most site configurations.

Why Hot-Dip Galvanized Finish Matters on Dubai Sites

Dubai's coastal air carries salt aerosols that penetrate ungalvanized steel within 6-12 months. Hot-dip galvanizing creates a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel at a typical thickness of 45-85 microns, far beyond what a painted or electroplated finish provides. A hot-dip galvanized GI tube outlasts an equivalent painted tube on a UAE site by a factor of 4-6. Over a project lifecycle or a scaffold rental fleet, that difference is measurable in AED.

GI Pipe Suppliers in UAE, What to Confirm Before Ordering

Not all GI pipe available in Dubai is scaffold-grade. Plumbing GI pipe uses different wall thicknesses and carries no structural load rating. Before ordering from any GI pipe supplier in the UAE, confirm four things:

  • OD is 48.3 mm, not 48.0 mm or 50 mm, which will not fit standard scaffold fittings
  • Wall thickness is 3.2 mm minimum, lighter tube (2.0 mm, 2.5 mm) is plumbing grade and structurally inadequate for scaffolding
  • Compliance with BS EN 39, the European standard for scaffold tubes covering tensile strength, dimensional tolerances, and galvanizing quality
  • Hot-dip galvanized, not painted, painted tubes look similar but offer a fraction of the corrosion protection in UAE conditions

Scaffolds Online provides material test certificates and BS EN 39 compliance documentation with trade and bulk orders, a requirement for health and safety files on most Dubai and Abu Dhabi main-contractor projects.

The standard outer diameter for scaffold GI tubes is 48.3 mm. This dimension is consistent across all scaffold systems globally, cuplock, ringlock, and tube-and-coupler, and ensures compatibility with standard fittings and couplers. Tubes sold at 48 mm or 50 mm will not fit correctly and create a safety risk on site.
